RARE 1950s Vintage Anthropomorphic ESD/Lefton Bluebird Covered Butter Dish | 50s | Made in Japan

ESD / Lefton had the most adorable vintage bluebird series that are very Disneyesque, adorably painted, round chubby blue bodied chicks with pink rosy faces, big blue eyes, yellow breasts and beaks, and wing and tail feathers! The cover to the dish is a complete top half of the bird that sits on a round dish where the butter goes. The head of the bird is turned upward, as if she is smiling at you. There is a tiny hole in the cover to allow air flow. So very cute! It is marked with the ESD, Japan, Hand Painted

ESD was a company in Canada whose owner, Harry Pearl, traveled to Japan for buying trips with George Lefton. While in Japan, both men purchased a lot of the same items for their companies (and got a discount for puchasing such a large amount at one time); one exclusively in Canada and the other exclusively in the US. This is why both the Lefton and ESD labels are found on some identical pieces.

Measurements:

Cover:
Height: 3.25"
Width: 4.5"
Length: 5.25"

Plate:
Diameter: 6.25"
Height: .75"

Maker: ESD, Japan
Series: Bluebird
Body Condition: Good vintage condition. There is one what looks to be a flea bite that was touched up. It is small but it feels rough so I think that is what has gone on. Please refer the 3rd last photo. The bottom of the plate has 3 trivet marks from the firing process which is normal for older pieces but I thought I should mention it. One has a bit of glaze missing. There is also 3 craze lines again normal for the age of the plate. of the plate (see photos). Please refer to the last photo.
